How to set up your table so shoppers can pay by phone

October 22, 2026 · 3 minute read

At a busy show, the slowest part of a sale is usually not the deal. It is the moment after "I'll take it," when you dig for change, pass a card reader around, or write a total on a scrap of paper. A few small changes to your table fix most of that.

1. Price everything you can

Shoppers buy faster when they do not have to ask. A price on every sleeve or top loader means fewer interruptions and fewer people walking away while you help someone else. Keep "make an offer" for the cards that really need it.

2. Put your QR code where eyes already land

Stand it up at the front edge of the table, at eye level for someone leaning over your case. One code is enough. When a shopper scans it, they see your cards and prices on their own phone and can add what they want to a cart.

3. Hold the card while they pay

When someone picks a card, it should come off the market for everyone else until they finish or walk away. That stops two people from paying for the same card, which is the fastest way to lose a sale and a customer.

4. Decide which cards need your okay

For your big cards, you may want to talk first. Mark those as "ask me before it sells," and the shopper's checkout waits until you approve it. Everything else can sell straight through while you keep working the table.

5. Keep cash easy too

Plenty of buyers still want to pay cash, and that is fine. Record cash sales in the same place so your inventory stays right at the end of the day.
